Daniel, you make some telling comments that have been kicked around here for quite awhile now. The questions I pose (mostly from a rhetorical standpoint, mind you) remain unanswered. I'm trying to lift the veil of misinformation and misunderstanding that seems to permeate this subject. Posting a link to a Chevron feel-good bulletin does nothing for me in that regard.
Exactly. I am guessing Bosch has been using Viton for many years. Exactly when they started, I'd be curious to know.
Another excellent point I was beating around the bush. Saying ignore the lubricity issue is either ignorant or stupid. Any idea where the vested interest of the aggregate power structure including the govt, manufacturers, right on down to the pump shop guys is in this matter? Seals, lubricity, bombing, whatever they don't care. As long as there is a steady stream of work coming in, new vehicles to sell, EPA bureaucrats to satisfy, etc. ad nauseum, it's all good.
Another very astute observation, which I completely agree with. How old are these trucks getting now, generally speaking? Sorry, had to ask.
Also right around the time it started getting cold - the time leaks always start in older or poorly maintained equipment. BTW, it got down to neg.13 here a couple nights early this month. Between that and the ULSD, conventional wisdom would seem to imply my truck ought to be leaking like a sieve by now.
I can really only speak from experience and the limited perspective of my one lonely Cummins. But it is 15 years old now, the pump's got to be nearly that old at least, and yes the AFC cover has been off a couple times recently and it is bone dry in there and no other leaks of any consequence to be found anywhere on the truck. Guess I'm just lucky.
Or maybe I belong to the vast majority of people who are not having problems. Most of which do not even know this forum exists. Any idea what is the percentage of all 1st gen owners to the number of people who use this forum? And of the latter number, how many are reporting leaks?

Boatnik. Would you be so kind to post the seal kit number. Although I had my pump rebuilt a year or so ago I would like to have a kit on hand if I due have a leak in the future. If there is a problem with posting the number on the website would you plese PM me.

I cannot believe it is the fuel. I would rather believe it is the temperature change coming about this last few months and the fact the trucks are getting old. Everything is contracting/expanding differently now. If you procrastinators out there with leaks will notice, when the truck warms up the leak slows down. Jim Lane, was your leak between the pump head and the main body?

My pump was leaking from the o-ring on the fuel screw, I bought the Gasket Kit but only used a few parts.
This is what you will need:
BOSCH Gasket Kit #DGK 121
I paid $19.00 for it from ADP

My pump was new in the fall of 2005 so it hasn't had too much LSD before I started running ULSD. I haven't seen any leaks yet. I am hoping with the little non-ULSD that has been ran through the pump, that maybe I will get lucky. Obviously I am not the only one who wishes there was some solid data on this.
