Might be buying another truck and one more for parts
So I'm kinda stoked about this...
Not sure exactly of year but the first truck's an i/c D250 CC auto with 217,xxx on the clock. It has a Line-X bedliner already in it and the body looks to be in great shape. It's got a two-tone paint scheme but I wasn't paying attention to the colors. It would need the hood painted to match and the rest of it could probably just use a fresh clear coat. It's at the transmission shop my dad has been going to for years. We happened to stop by yesterday and saw it sitting out front. My friend, the owner, told me it was there for an in and out of overdrive and cruise control problem. I smiled and said, "that's more than likely a TPS issue." I'll just buy the custom POT that DNRCustoms makes for the autos. Anyhow, he went on to tell me that the owner had some shop rig up a control box to make the cruise control work and it still doesn't. Of course, the shop he had that done at is no longer in business. Before we left I mentioned to the owner, somewhat jokingly, to see if the guy might wanna sell it. Well, he called today and said that there's a chance he just might and he will talk to him tomorrow for me and let me know. He said the owner of the truck is an older guy and calls it his "baby." I'm not sure if this guy knows what he has but if he's thinking that the repairs are too much for him, then maybe he just wants to get rid of it. Hopefully I'll be able to get some details from the guy about what's done to it. Hopefully it's fairly close to stock or bone stock but with the rigged cruise control box, who knows what else was ridiculously rigged up. I don't wanna to let him know that I know a thing or 2 about these trucks 'cause then he'd probably decide to keep it and ask me a bunch of questions
. So I'll just play the roll of a young guy looking for an old diesel truck that gets good mileage to get me around
.
All that being said so far, I'm wondering what sort of price would be reasonable so that I can come out on top but not lowball the guy. Unless he doesn't know what he has and just wants to get rid of it. What do you guys think? If it's a '92 with the lagmaster 21cm turbo, that's fine. I've got my baby h1c with an 18.5cm housing I can swap on and maybe a GDS 60mm upgrade to help in the air department.
The truck I'd use for parts is a '91.5 d350 DRW that has a cracked frame and 538,xxx miles on the clock. Motor and drivetrain still intact. Being a parts truck, I'm thinking of swapping front end parts (radiator support, etc) to make my '90 an i/c front end. Thus, making it easier for the PS i/c to go in. Probably swap the doors also as both of mine have cracks under the mirror mounting flanges. The motor has a tappet cover leak which I'm told causes a loss of 1qt. of oil in about 50 miles. I'm not sure about the running condition of it but with that many miles and the rest of the truck being used for parts, I'd end up rebuilding it. I can't quite come up with a reasonable price for this one but I'm thinking somewhere around $1,200-$1,500? It's a lot to read, I know and I'm sorry. Any thoughts on this one too?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any opinions and tips

Jimbo,
I can't tell you what to ask, as I've not enough experience with these vehicles to do so.
One thing I can say is that if you do buy the parts truck, please part it out HERE ! I'm sure we could use some of what you don't want or need...

I think you're in the ballpark for the parts truck. Closer to the $1k mark though. The other truck that has the OD 'problem,'
kinda depends. If you can get it for less than $4k I'd say, without having seen it, you'd be getting a pretty good deal for a clean unmolested truck.

I'll probably be picking up the truck next weekend. I assure you, any parts I don't use myself will be up for grabs here. It's got a utility body on it that probably weighs 3,000lbs. maybe? The overall weight I'm told is 8,000lbs. and it's only a single cab truck!

Most appreciated.

I believe it's a Dana 70. It's a '91.5 truck. Either way, I'm sure Dana parts are interchangeable. I'd like to try and sell the axle as a whole if I can. Shoot me a PM with what you want/need so I don't lose this thread and if I can't sell the entire axle, you'll be first on the list for those. I don't know the condition of most of the parts yet.
