Another clutch thread!?!

So, I've got this here truck that I swapped to a Getrag from the 518. When I did it, I looked high and low for a 13" clutch I could afford. A local company had a Luk setup which I purchased for ~$350.

When I initially put the truck together, it vibrated. I took it back apart, took them my flywheel and pressure plate and they rebalanced it.

Put it back together and it still vibrated.

Well I just took it back apart and cured the vibration by putting the OE Sachs back in...clutch plate and pressure plate. No vibration!

But, it's old and tired and will only hold 15 PSI.

So, now I don't really know what to do. I'm loathe to put any part of the Luk back in...loathe to rip it back apart to see if the Luk clutch plate will work with the Sachs pressure plate without vibrating and loathe to spend $500+ on a Southbend.

But I don't really know what to do. I've thought a bit about seeing if I can just get a good clutch disc without pressure plate, but not really sure if that's the best option either.

So here I turn to you, the fine folks at DTR, for suggestions!

Thanks!

I've heard some good things about Luk, maybe try calling them? Even if no warranty, worth a shot to tell them what's going on. I had good luck with valair doing that, technically out of warranty but they still helped me out.

You could just get a clutch disc made up at a shop or something.

The sachs pressure plate is so good I'd just keep it at your power level.

That's what we should have done with the 93 rather than buying a whole new setup, the pressure plate still worked great the disc was just down to the buttons

What exactly wears out on a pressure plate? I'd like to just use the Sachs and I hate to say it but I think my next move is to pull the sachs clutch, replace it with the clutch plate from the new clutch and use the old pressure plate.

But not sure if it needs to be scuffed up or rubbed down or if it's part of the worn out equation.

I just can't really spend the kind of money for a SB. Looks like around $650 for their most economical (aside from the 90)

that is what I did... Luk 05-101 from the HO; matches up with the 6spd well too. Got the ball-bearing pilot too.

Now what I took out from in front ov the 6sp was a Sachs PP with the OE G360 flywheel and a 4-puck metallic disc with a 1.375 hub...so I am pretty sure you'd be able to find just a disc.
cheers,
Douglas

The springs might weaken some, but the biggest problem is that the worn mating surface on the plate will quickly wear out the new disc. I replaced my stock sachs with a center force, but I kept the original as a spare, because it still looked good. I have been pleased with the center force, but I plan to have the original rebuilt and replaced, if the center force ever gives up the ghost...Mark

There is a lip to center the Sachs PP. It there anyway your new PP is hitting on that lip or something throwing it off center?

Just an idea.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I was thinking it might be something like that, though, as I've been reading a lot of threads about the differences and modifications needed with certain flywheels and certain clutches.

This one was supposed to be an OE replacement unit.

I just spoke with the folks I purchased it from and they're doing the right thing. The guy seems to think he can get me a Sachs PP, but I'm a little doubtful on that one at this point.

I think it was just bad parts. There's a lot of springs involved in the whole setup, so who knows how the balance was off...

Oh well, I'm just glad they're going to 'make it right'.

4th time is a charm!
