Alternative Oil Pressure Sender Installation

Since the oil pressure senders for these engines are notorious for failure, and since Cummins decided to locate the sender in a real PITA location, I'm leaning towards a modified installation scheme. Here's what I'm envisioning.

I want to come out of the existing oil pressure sender location with some galvanized pipe of the appropriate size, bring the line towards the firewall and away from the vacuum/power steering pump, turning up 90* with a close nipple, installing a tee fitting, and then installing an oil pressure sender and a mechanical oil pressure gauge into the tee.

Questions. First has anyone done such a modification already? If so, a material list would be very handy and save time. If no one has already done this, can someone tell me what diameter and thread the oil pressure sender uses?

Oil pressure sensor threads are 1/8 pipe I think. I would be worried that the pipe would crack from vibration.

instead of pipe, I used a grease gun hose

Good idea. A flexible hose such as a grease gun hose would allow the assembly to flex and move. Jim do you have any details on the setup you created? Was there any adapters or bushings needed to screw into the block?

I screwed the hose into the engine and on the other side a tee.

sender goes to one side of the tee and on the other side,
another hose with an industrial type guage.

I tie wrapped the guage up near the master cyl area for easy viewing.

i came out of the block with a 1" long pipe nipple, added a tee with one of the side fittings screwed in the nipple. installed the factory sender in the center of the tee facing the starter and the mechanical guage hose in the end of the tee. been that way for about 7 years now without a problem.
