AFC Lever Questions

The truck is mostly for play, barely ever any major pulling.
I have heard of grinding the AFC lever, or simply Removing it.
What would you suggest?
How do you remove it?
If removed, I assume it can be put back, right?

Thanks!

It can be removed, but the holes left in the AFC top must be plugged, which I've heard can be tricky business. The up side is that you can then return to stock if/when you like.

I removed my afc lever it was quite easy, I just put the screws back in the side that I took out to remove the lever and it seals fine. Although the truck hasn't ran much since then

The intercooled pumps hold the AFC lever shaft in with pressed in steel ***** - they are not real forgiving about resealing. On an non-intercooled pump it's a no brainer - take it out so you can go back to stock later if you want.

A totally removed AFC would mean that you have to be Master of Throttle to keep the smoke in check?

Can you swap out the intercooled for a non intercooled pump top?

does the afc grind allow the pump to put out more fuel at top end or does it only affect low boost or is a fuel pin grind going to put all the fuel that the pump can give at top end sorry dont real understand the afc lever

Thanks for the correction dave. It literally only took me two mins to take it out of my non Ic, and seems just as easy to put it back in. Its seems like another good reason to switch to a non ic pump top, I've always heard that they are better.

Follow the 3200 RPM spring instructions to get the pump top off. On a non-IC truck, just remove the screws (one on each side) and push the shaft out, put the AFC lever somewhere safe, put the shaft and screws back in, and put the pump back together. On an IC pump you have to drive the shaft (and the ***** that hold and seal it) out, then put it back together. A bit trickier and seems likely to leak.

Yes. If you mat it from a stop it will fog out a 4 lane road.

Yes, that's how my truck is.

AFC grind/lever removal gives you more fuel across the board.

I don't recommend this on tow rigs or trucks with big injectors. My truck was ridiculous with the EDM's and a ground AFC. I couldn't make the 2-3 shift without stopping traffic.

IC vs nonIC tops

My non intercooled, 114 pump, with the extended DV holders, had the steel ***** that had to be pressed out and re-epoxied to seal it. It has held just fine.
