i might swap the fluid out again to see if it helps but im not sure whats going on. it still holds the power real good.

When McMopar "blessed" my tranny internals during the service & AL plunger last year, I started looking for the heat...

When it got above 190*-200*, it took FOREVER to cool below 180*. I bypassed the HE, hard wired the fan on the larger factory cooler and confirmed routing (tranny> temp sender> larger cooler> small cooler in grill> tranny)... cool down time immediately decreased. Towing 7k#-8k# is fine as long as the cooler fan is turned on from the start, almost like it's getting heat soaked. IOW, once the HE was eliminated from keeping the fluid at least 180*, it's able to cool MUCH better, but will still go higher when "pushing" it. I do plan to drop the big cooler to insure there's no a birds nest/other road debris hindering is air flow.

IMH(but knowledge limited)O, ALL my heat issues at this point are (the OEM) torque converter related. Once I win the lotto or managed to pry the kiddies piggy bank from their sleeping hands, I plan to prove/disprove this with a Hughes...

I remember reading here about a thermal switch in the hot line that would deny overdrive, I think, if the temp went to 280*, this was in the 618's but I don't know if the 518's have it also. Anyway Mother may not think 250* is excessive in that line. I would still prefer to bring the temp down though.

I agree with you about the heat exchanger but what about when the truck is just putting around town. How are your temps there? When I finaly get my 47rh in my truck I plan on getting a thermostat controlled cooler so I have my mininum temp to keep my trans alive.

Just driving around town the temp should not go over 180-190 there is a seriuos problem with the pump or the trans was setup to tight how is the stall on it i would also check the psi on it .

You may have a serious issue here. My tranny temperature doesn't get off the peg until I sit at a stop for a few minutes with the truck in gear. It normally runs around 130* F at sixty mph and might hit 180 pulling a load. I am still running the factory heatexchanger and cooler. The only real tempertature spike happens while dragging the boat up a steep ramp or when I am crawling through mud in 4wheel high. Once the air starts flowing across the cooler it drops right away. It sounds like a restriction to the cooling line. Not enough flow through the torque converter.

I was just looking at one of these condensers for a cooler and it looks like there is an orifice in the tube that comes out at 45*. That needs to be removed if possible.

I would be interested too that looks like it should be the evaporator and not the condenser.
What was the application for this condenser?

If you were to use it for a cooler it would definitely need to be removed, with that much restriction in the fluid circuit it might build too high of a pressure and might not even shift unless there was some internal bypass in the trans.
I would think.

Does it look like that restriction is removable in the condenser you have? Except for that, it would have made a good cooler.
