Ac

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how does the refrigerant flow on the a/c system from a 89 with a/c?

Thank You.

I see there are two pipes coming out of the a/c pump, which one takes the refrigerant and which one pushes it?

Large one is suction and the smaller one is the high pressure.

Ok, I have this problem, looks like the pipes small and big could be switched which side (as in right or left) does the big pipe go looking at the pump from the front. A picture would really help. I have it already mounted but I didn't care for a/c until now and for some reason it seems to not get full of refrigerant yet therefore My pressure switch does not give power to the pump and the pump won't turn with the engine.
I jumped the wire on the pressure switch and the pump will turn and it seems like it get a little cool but not much even after 3 12oz refrigerant bottle's. I pulled vacuum on the system before and it held 25inches for a day so I thought everything was alright there (no leaks) but for what ever reason the system doesn't build pressure on the low pressure side.

Thank You.

I'am not sure if I understand, you think the hoses have been reversed at the compressor? On the compressor next to the ports there is the letter S and P.
What readings are you getting with your gauges?

I don't have them yet, I have one of those cheapo gauge that connects between the refrigerant bottle and the low pressure port. When I empty the bottle on the system the pressure goes from low to normal (i know, no real #'s) but after a few seconds it is back to low. I put 36oz so far and I thought it would work by now. I'm not discarding the possibility of a leak but I did pull 25 inches of vacuum on the system and it held for a day.

This a/c I pulled from the donor truck and as far as I remember I put it the same way but I'm reassuring this so I can continue My search for the cause of this.

Same thing is happening to me on a 90 gasser dodge d150

I put it on Max a/c while its running, the compressor kicks in and out for some reason, i hook up the can/gauge. gauge says 0... i shake the can while pulling trigger squirting freon into the system, goes up to 25 (normal) then if the compressor kicks back in it goes back down to 0 and the a/c still does'nt work,
its not even taking it out of the can because i unscrewed the can from the gauge/trigger and it blew the whole can all over.

idk what our a/c problems are but I'm done, time for a professional to mess with it.

did you replace the oriface valve aka the expansion valve?

and install a new dryer? do you see the little bubbles moving in the dryer?

That was My thought as well, the ford a/c system uses an orifice tube (inside the line) and it occurred to Me it could be plugged but I just put a new one and thought everything else was good.

I don't want to open the system again and find it was something else. The gauge I have for the low pressure side does the same thing as Crossys son truck, is that a plugged line? Shouldn't it show high all the time instead?

I do have a pressure switch on mine but since it wasn't kicking ON I jumped the switch and I turn the a/c pump ON Myself while I have it on max a/c in the cab and it does get a little cool but then it goes away what is going on? I could buy the gauge kit but I'm not sure that will help Me find out what the problem is. I don't have money for the mechanic so I have to figure this one on My own if I don't get help from You guys.

Thank You.

Exekiel69 I know what your going thru. But there are so many varibles it's hard to diagnose what your problem is without being there. I fix my on a/c systems but it would be difficult to tell you how and not seeing your truck. If you can buy a cheap Haynes automotive heating and air conditioning manual. I hate those cheap haynes books but it does have alot of good info inside. You could probably diagnose and fix your problem. A cheap set of gauges still cost quite alot but it might take them to find and fix the problem. I see you added freon did you add any a/c oil? With no oil or freon be careful bypassing the pressure switch you could burn up your compressor. Good luck with it.
