93 headlights flashing and turning off

Just had my lights shutoff on the highway and start to flash, then they were off completely for about 15 seconds and then came back on. I guess ill look more at the wires in the am. but i saw no noticeable breaks on a quick inspection. also did this yesterday. any tips on specific place to look. I could not get them to shut off in the parking lot

Sounds like a bad head light switch to me.

In the dash it is where you turn the lights on that is the head light switch.

there is also a circuit breaker in the headlight circuit. but, i agree, sounds like the switch. if not, check the grounds under hood.

Do you smell anything.
Have you been towing a trailer.

Headlight switch is the most likely issue. I replaced a couple of switches in my 93 and then finally did the Jim Lane light harness mod and have never looked back....speaking of looking forward, the reliability of the lights is first and foremost, but they are 30% brighter now too.

Light switch. I put Sylvania Extra-vision lights on mine and had to put relays in it. I only did one light, but have plans for re-doing the entire light system with relays. Might even put a momentary switch in to be able to blink my lights.

Possibly now, possibly later, you won't know til you try it. If they are staying on a while before they start kicking out I would guess it may last a while longer.

At the very least one of the contacts on the switch will be a little burnt--you need to pull it out and clean off the crud.

I would change the switch and do the relays that way you know it will work properly.
