93 dodge cummins front rotors ( 2wd )

hey all, i was just about to tackle the front rotors on this truck. when i took the tire off, i was stumped. ive never seen a rotor like this. Its a hub rotor assembly which is fine, but its got the extention plate where the studs are pressed through, and no one sells this rotor ; napa, lordco, the dealership, apparently that rotor is discontinued they tell me. I have a 4000 lb front end and it is not a dually truck, also i went to the dealer and got a spec sheet printed out for my truck when it was brand new and it says for the front brakes " 5500# with hub extention" i have no clue. Any help woud be awesome.

thanks.

Once you whack the extension off the rotor, the rotor is fairly standard and not as pricey as I expected, ... get out the penetrating oil and impact sockets as the fasteners in there are a bear. A good swat with a hammer on the stud prior to wrenching may save you some grief, ..

Hey 93RamRod...I believe we've communicated through the local Craigslist about this.

So no luck yet...Hmmm Thought that info I sent you would have done the trick. Do you have a couple pics you could post, or send to me and I'll get them up. Pictures make it a lot easier to picture what you have.

I would be curious to see how you guys recommend rotor replacement. I am going to do mine on the 89 D-250 in a couple days. I got the outer bearing seals to replace them once I take them off but any other help hints would be awesome.

Hey Ramrod can you get some pix up yet, maybe to photobucket and link to them. Reason is that the way you guys are talking it sounds like yours may be a brake configuration unlike mine. My extension was tough to get off (cap screws REALLY torqued on) but not complicated. Now it's bugging me, ... or at least let us know you got it figured, ...

Looks same as mine, ... after you hang the caliper up out of the way and pull the rotor look inside (from the engine side). You'll see a circle of cap screws holding the extension to the rotor. Once it's all apart you'll have a fairly normal looking rotor that won't cost excessive revenue to replace, ....

Do you have the 3830# front suspension?

I'm trying to order parts in advance for mine, and don't want to get it wrong. It seems the parts catalogs list several possibilities for our trucks....

Hey U2slow...... I had the same problem with my 89' D-250 when I went to get front rotors and pads. Even though the door sticker says it is a front weight rating of 3,830 lbs, these trucks have a 4,000lb front axle. When I got my rotors though, they were rated for both 3800 and 4000 lb front axles.

Bearings and seals are 4000# stuff also?

Does it matter if you get the separate 'rotor only' or the complete 'rotor & hub' with the races already installed?

Not too sure on that stuff. I bought outer bearing seals in case I need to remove that to get at my rotors. I guess I am in the same boat as you since this is my first time replacing rotors/pads on the truck. I believe the seals were for a 3700 lb axle or something because that is as big as they come (at least at Auto Zone).

I'm pretty sure there is no complete rotor/hub set-ups available. You get the rotor only and have to press out the wheel studs and then move the hub over to the new rotor and press the studs back in.

Ah ok, what I've run into in the parts catalogs is a integral hub/rotor, but its for a 3300# front axle. Probably for the lighter duty gas 3/4-tons.
