92 crew with p7100?

Well today I looked at a 92 crew cab d350, auto, with 450,000 miles. I popped the hood expecting a VE but instead I find a P7100. The tag on the motor says 175 horse so correct me if im wrong but that’s a 94-95 motor right? The guy didn’t know much about it since it wasn’t his but im guessing that the truck was converted to diesel at some time after 1993. Also not sure when it was converted to crew cab. What I want to know is $4500 worth it? It has some body damage above the rear taillights that should be able to be banged back out. But that’s it. As far as rust goes it’s clean. I should find out specifics on Monday.

Thanks

is it crew cab (4 doors) or club cab (2 doors) ? ok forget that....

was the frame cut and stretched or was this made out of an 80's crew? i guess i'm asking cause i can't figure out what would make it a 92? also does it have a lock-up tranny?

Yeah, that's a 2nd gen motor. Get the CPL # and you can find out what year. $4500 doesn't sound too bad for a solid crew conversion.

I think its a stretch because all the older crew cabs i have seen use the front doors as the rears. on this one the rear doors are different then the front. thinking about it now i guess the ones i have seen in the past could have been conversions. hummmm now i dont know which it is. The tranny looks identical to the one in my 93. so i would have to say no lock up.

That's an original crew cab, The back doors are different than the front doors.

The lockup and non-lockup transmissions look practically identical. I would bet that the engine and trans are out of the same truck, so the trans is most likely equipped with a lockup converter.

ok so if it is a true original crew, and the engine is out of a second gen, what makes it a 92? dash from a 92 possibly? bringing the vin with it?

I'd say it sounds like a fairly nice truck as long as it hasn't been hacked up I'd jump on it

There was a company that used "rebuilt" original crew cabs on later model chassis to do crew conversions. Look at the frame. If it has been stretched, it's a conversion of that type.

There is a 93' W-350 around here that a guy I know used to have and his was one of the original looking crew cabs, but the frame wasn't stretched it just had a short flatbed on it, but it still looked pretty cool, even though it had a little to short of a bed on it for me.

crew cab

i have seen 4 diffrent ones around before. two in Oregon, one in Washington, and one in Montana! they all had short beds on them. the one i seen in washington belongrd to a guy down from canada! i asked where he got it, he told me he bought new in 92 from a dodge dealer in Vancouver BC.

there is also a pic of one in the latest print of DIESEL POWER. they could have been a factory type conversion. i seen some brand new 95 CTD with crew cab conversions, and the back doors opend suicide. i thought back then @ 16 that $37,000 was too much for a truck , but now thats not even a fully loaded one, let alone a custom conversion!

but the first gen crew cab short beds are out there. but the question is, who made them, and how many were made?

Ok I have some more information on the truck. The truck is titled as an 84. The bed is a 93 along with the grill. The engine is a 94 and the tranny supposedly is a 92 . So im going to take another look at it this weekend. What I want to know is how do I tell if it is the 47re or the 518a. Can I tell by looking at the torque converter? If it dose not have a lockup converter I probably will not get it. I will also try to get some pics of it this weekend for you guys.

Sounds good. If it has a lockup TQ, he would of have to have some type of on/off switch for lockup, not including OD on/off. I'm sure there is a ID tag on them somewhere. I'm not up on the slushboxes. I'd grab it fast at that price and setup. Pics (with phone number on for sale sign) would be sweet.

Why would it have to have on/off switches? Is it because a computer or something is suppose to control lock up?
