Had same thing happen
Bought from a yard - assured me that it would fit
I did the sawall number
Shimmed with washers where necessary and bolted it down
No worries

The bed was from a half ton truck with the slightly different frame which requires the spacers to fit properly.

This is good information...thank you for posting it up. I have a newer truck bed to put on my D350 crewcab and just assumed, as you did, that it would be a direct drop and bolt.

Do you have any pics of the offending brackets?

In 1989 they slightly changed the frame and thus the bed on all trucks regardless of weight rating or legnth.

They aren't limited to just the 1/2-ton truck's beds. The '89-'90 dually bed I bought had them as well. It's the differences in the frame hump over the axle. Some frames are completely flat and others have another small hump in the middle. Both my '90 and '91.5 trucks have that frame. I had to cut the brackets/spacers off of the bed in order for it to sit right on my '90.
