6 speed in a 93?

how much would a 6 speed cost to install in my 93 2x4?..whats the overdrive ratios in the getrag, and the 6 speed?? i like the 4.10 rear, but another gear would be nice.what stuff would i need,or is it cheaper to buy another truck, but i really like the ol stinky. oh i did some minor pump mods,2.5 turns in,bottom star, and turned fuel pin,and it runs better,a lot better. not up to the d-max yet,but pretty good for an old turd, lol. the truck makes me smile every time i drive it,rice burners dont smile at the smoke, and that makes my day...lol

Theres not much more gear to it....just lower. 5th is like 4th, 6th is like 5th. I believe 1st is just a really low gear. It would cost you quite a bit. Good luck finding the 6sp for under $2k. Not to mention the tunnel is too small on 1st gens I believe, so youd have to get handy with a cutoff wheel and a sledge. However, if youre serious about it, it can be done. CHeck out this link for a good how-to.

Dont it just bring a big ol grin to your face?? I had a permenant smile on my face after I ran into a guy on here that lived 3 miles up the road, n he helped me bomb my truck!
The 6 speed was esentially created to solve the steep 3-4 shift. so its just a 5 speed with different ratios in the mid range. You are looking at a 2k+ install after parts. Someone does have one though. If your simply looking for another overdrive, look into a gear vendors overdrive unit. hehehe then you'll have a ten speed (basically) n 2 reverse gears!

6 speed sounds fun . I had 410 gears and wanted that extra gear also . I put 307's out of a 91 truck that had the automatic trans . The best thing I ever did to my truck . Now you can use all the gears . There spaced apart just perfect and it brought the fun back into driving and it now moves along with no problem just watch for the red light in the mirror ...

well if the 6 spd is about the same, then its a gear change, maybe to a 3.54 and 235's.gear venders sounds pricey, but so was the 6spd i guess.we will see,i would just like to drive the ol girl longer dist,w/o going 60-65.the scream of the clatter is scary,at 530+k miles,oh well,thanks!!!!...has anyon ever ck'ed the mileage on a getrag w/ a 3.07 rear at 70 mph??? got to be in the 24+ range eh?

Im hopefully starting my swap this weekend. I have a 727 in it, and a Getrag waiting. Im gonna leave my 3.07s, atleast for a while. And it probably will be well in the 20s.

i have been real happy with the getrag and 3-54? gears (i know they are 3:5?) it pulls a load decent and you can drive 55-60 in fourth with a load on. and still cruise 70mph in od empty and get some mileage. drove my brother 97 ctd with 4:10s and for me i don't pull everyday and i didn't like the higher revs when empty, sure pulls hard with a load very impressed.

imfixinmopars since it's only a 2wd swapping 3.54 in place of the 4.10 would probably be the cheapest... if you actually found a complete 3.54 rear and put complete 4.10 rear in the classifieds you may come out of it without spending a whole lot of money! just a thought. maybe even look a a dana80 swap as long as it has the gearing you want, what's a couple of u-bolts and some labor anyways

I've been quite happy with the Gear Vendors unit. It is more correctly referred to as a gear "splitter," and turns the 4.10 truck into a real towing monster. You can always find the exact right ratio no matter where you are or how heavy the load. 4th over is perfect for good rpm at highway speeds without heating up the Getrag running in 5th. The GV can be engaged or de-selected at a flick of the switch coming out of a hairpin turn on a mountain grade and you're set to accelerate right on up the road. Driveshaft is about 18inches shorter/stronger. Driveline feels solid/tight. Can't say enough good about it.

dad has a US gear od in his old 87 gmc with a four speed and 6.2 diesel. did wonders pulling hills with loads on and his has 410 gears and was winding out at 60mph. have more than 100k on the od unit with very little problems.

I have been getting upwards of 22 just tooling around town and back roads, way better than 16 mpg the 727 would produce, but to be fair the auto was smoked when I pulled it

alright, its a 3.54 swap in the works.since its a dually rear,i will just change the gears i guess unless i can find a rear cheap?im not afraid of r/r gears.i think it would make the truck much happier. the truck has minimal rust, decent interior, and runs/drives good, and even the getrag works nice,so i would like to keep the truck, really want a 4x4,though.oh well, and the miles are at 530+k,so its a challenge now.thanks guys for the input, have a great smokey day!

Just have to add my .02 worth!

I have had my GV, for almost 2 years now. and it is grate!!!!!

I have 4:10 gears, and 65 mph was it's happy spot and 17 mpg

Installed the "Gear Vendor" and mileage when form 17 to 21 mph on the highway @ 80 mph now instead of 65.

Being able to split that long 3 to 4th makes a big difference.

I'm sure that i could get better mileage then 21 if i ran the truck a little bit slower. But its too nice to keep up with traffic, and even pass if i want too

They are Vary Expensive but, worth every penny. I do not regret it at all!!!!!!!
Well worth the $$$$.$$ It's just hard to come up with that much cash in one setting.

Sure that 6sp will get ride of that lone stretch between 3 and 4th, but so will a GV.
Adding lower gears to tow' or higher gears for MPG' will be cheaper but you only get one. or the other.......GV, you get Both.

The GV is as strong, or stronger then any part of the drive train(Will never be the weak link!)

Install, is a little difficult the first time, not wanting to make any mistakes on such a pricey project. But would be quit simple the 2nt time a round!

Flash.

My truck has 3.07 and the getrag. at 70mph I can break 20 no problems. typical is about 72-75mph for me. about 1700rpm. Best Mileage yet was 22.84mpg and that was slowing down to 62-65 for about 1/2 of the tank. This all with a 4x4. I have been so pleased with the mileage I'm tempted to try 3.07's on a 2wd with a getrag.

Can the gear vendors be used in 4x4?
I think the overdrive of a Getrag is .77, a NV4500 .74 and a NV 5600 .73.
