my bad guys. 203 it is. Evening brain fart!!

Also like earlier mentioned, you can find the t-case support out of a donor truck. But make sure you make a beefy brace of the bottom of the case to the frame. The factory support is kinda weak. They twist easy and tend to crack In the center. I'll post a pic of a crossmember i made tomorrow.

finding a donor cross member seems like it would be almost as hard as finding a 29 spline 205!

i didn't think about the fact that it would have a short driveshaft between the trans and T-case. that does seem like it would be pretty far back. maybe far enough to eliminate the 2 piece rear drive shaft and the carrier bearing?

You could probably lose the two piece rear shaft. I run a divorced 205 on my '72 mud truck. She is a gasser and thats the way they came then. I have a few spare 205's and I was thinking of using one on my crew cab to CTD swap until I found the correct 29 spline married 205. DNRCustoms is right about the weak factory mount. I could get it to rock back and forth by shifting my tranny into 1 or reverse. So I fabbed up a brace that uses the bottom driverside hole in the transfercase to help hold it together. With a longer wheel base it would be great. My '72 is a short bed reg cab and I eat up the rear u -joint with a 7 inch lift and 38s. I have even thought about throwing a front drive shaft w/ the double u joint on the rear by changing the yokes around...My rear driveshaft is that short.

BUt as far as putting a divorced 205 behind a 5 sp, that would be awesome.. Just need to make a cross member for the case.. you'd have lots of options too, big lift and good driveshaft angles!!
your thinking of the 203 not the 208 witch is an alum. case.

What would you do for a front drive shaft??? the transfercase would be so much farther back...

So custom driveshafts would be needed right?? or do i not understand what a divorced transfercase is...
Brandon. It means that the transfer case is not mounted to the tranny.

In the truck my friend built, he used the original '72 front drive shaft. The shaft from the tranny to t case he had to not only weld it as small as the pipe would let him, he also had to cut some off the spline so it could move. Our trannys are longer than the New Process 4spds that came in those years.

The other consideration is how vulnerable the front drive shaft becomes with the divorced Tcase, the front drive shaft is protected more with the married coupler due to it's shorter length. If you were only tractor pulling, or only needed 4x4 for icy/muddy roads you would be OK, my truck sees too much varied use to have the front drive shaft hanging down low like that.

Just look at your front drive shaft from the side of the truck, now immagine the attachment point 2 feet farther back, sometimes they even have to sit lower still to clear the tranny crossmember. If you drop off a sharp ledge or a steep ditch the front drive shaft is more likely to make contact. But sometimes I wheeel my truck like I stole, could be just me.

Is that a Ford 205(drivers side drop) or am I looking at something wrong?

I always wondered, do the divorced 205's use a big shaft/bearing like the 29 spline Dodge or a smaller one? Anyone have any issues with breakage? Does making a shifter get complicated because of the case's location?

Good eye bookshelf but he pic looks flipped. You can see the steering arm is on the opposite side.

DNR, nice cross brace but I'm shocked you welded it in place . With the truck custom things always seem to get changed. What degree do you have the case mounted?

Not sure if the 205 is like the older 201 were you have the option of 2 low. You can put it in low range 2x4 for maneuvering around in confined quarters. Works great backing the travel trailer in a tight spot.

Jeepsuk, they make cross over u-joints. I have one on my McMobile. From the 201 to F-350 rear end. I had to go to a drive line shop but they make several u-joint that have 2 different size caps on them.

Maybe for crossover steering? Don't know how the pic is flipped, looking at a rear view of the front axle. Of course, we could always let DNR answer this lol

looked like a ford driver drop case to me....

If you twin stick the np205 you can get the option of 2-low. I don't know any stock shifter configs like that though... just single stick 4hi 2hi n 4lo
