the 48RE is a 3rd gen trans, full electronic. 03-08 (5.9) trans

our 518's are hydraulic so theres no hope i dont think of anything working.

not sure about 47RH stuff into a 518 but why? there both hydraulic trans but the 47 is lockup. the 47rh valve body will be different from the 518 because the 518 is non lock

well... if the planetary gears are the same in the 48re they would work but i really am not sure. The later 47rh had better planetary gears (i believe they are aluminum and are weaker) than the early 47rh and 518 which make them more desirable. plus the some of the early 47rh (like mine) have straight cut gears which are NOISY , nothing wrong just noisy. they went away from that in the later 47rh's. Good trans shop (I know Goerend does this) will replace straight cut gears and the planetary gears when they do a rebuild on a trans.

sorry i can't be more help with the 48re

yep, they made changes in them two years. don't know the exact details but not all 47rh are the same (mine is the weaker unit ) fuctionality was the same but i guess they were just doing a little more R&D to make them a little more stout.

wow, so yours being a 94 is slightly weaker then a 95 unit? maybe dodge realized how sucky the 47rh was so they tried to improve it in 95. lol

only dodge, a two year only trans, and both trans are different.

thats like ford stuff there. jeeez

OK, I'm dumb as a bar of soap when it comes to auto's. Looking to get a 1st gen with a 727. Want to update to a OD lockup auto. I do not want a 518. OD yes. it does not have lockup though. And this is why I have drove a stick all my life..

OR here is a twist............ How about a 518 OD Clutchflite!! Any one but US older men ever hear of one of those? It is an auto with a clutch. Drive it like a stick, shift it like an auto..Who knows, I may have just started a "NEW/OLD" concept.

I can tell you that a 48 planet won't work in a 727, we were going to do it on mine. They look exactly the same, but nope, won't fit. I think steel planetaries only run like $300.

Yea, I'm showing my age. But you have to admit. Might not be a bad idea..........Think I'll be the first one to do it.
