For 400hp What Turbo Is Needed
I am looking to run 400hp and i have asked 10 different people and got 10 different answers ,,, so here i am again ... what turbo should i run ?????, i have a hx-35 now , my truck is a 1993 standard with a powerstoke intercooler ,,,
One thing to remember is, turbo places make money selling turbos. So keep that in mind. They might try to talk you into the smallest one that will cool for now.
From my experience, Gillette Diesel has very good help and, or advice. When you call, they know what a 1st gen is, and even the differences from year to year. They don't plaster their name all over it, just get you what you want.
I would think an S300 or HX40 will do the job. Some people steer clear of the 40. If you get a brand new Super HX40, I have heard they are alright. I didn't think you could get a 14cm for it though. S300 has more options(housings, etc.). If money isn't a problem, might look at a Garret. There is a lot of options for them when you get past 400hp.
Just my .02$

hx40, s300 or if you want to spend the money go with a garrite GT35r, when i was biulding my twins i was going to go with the garrite, but the money wasnt there at that time
hx40 you have to be carrful you dont over boost it and blow it up, the s300 seems to be a good turbo that alot of people like, but garret is a step above

I am running a PDR HX35 and I put down a best of 394 RWHP. I've changed to a DennyT Stage II fuel pin but have not dynoed with it yet. I think I am over 400 now but I will have to wait until I dyno to get the numbers.
A PDR HX35 is just an HX35 that came from Performance Diesel Research up in Canada. When Piers Harry owned the company he had some "changes" done to the HX35 that gives a little more power under boost. Don't ask what was done for two reasons: no1 I have no idea what was done and no2 Peirs didn't share his tricks - or so I've heard.
