Just wanted to update my response to this thread in regards to the problematic breakage that occurs on the upper A arms

Recap: '89 D250 upper driver side broke in a parking lot. Replaced with an arm from a '92 D250 diesel and noticed it had a doubler plate right where my original A arm broke. Thought was that changes were made in '92 to the intercooled models that bolstered the A arms. Suggested to look for 92/93 a-arms to replace - this is not that case.

Update: Inspected 1977 D200 Club Cab 440 V8 9000 GVW truck that seemed very beefy with thick gauge frame, 7.5 inches tall. (thicker gauge than my '73 d200 club cab) 5/8" wheel studs. (SRW)

Noticed that the front A arms were the beefy version with the doubler plate on the inside, where my '89 D250 arms failed. Appears that these A arms can be found on 2wd trucks going back into the 70's but look out for a camper 9000 or 10000 version to be sure.

Just wanted to pass on the info so people can broaden their search if looking for a much needed safety upgrade in the junk yard. A sad situation that Chrysler did not install these heavy A Arms on ALL cummins pickups - they are definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

Unless you want it to break again I recommend sourcing the 4000 lb front end A arm from a 92/93.
Temporarily, yes.
