3rd gen air to air in a first gen

Well, Im about to install a 3rd gen air to air in a first gen truck. I have seen where second gen air to airs where installed. the 3rd gen is huge.
This will take some serious mods. I have already fitted it into place. The cutting torch has been used plenty I will give more details when done.
Unfortunately, I wont be able to give EGT numbers.
I am doing a head swap, AFC pump mod and air to air all at the same time.
I was at 332 HP and 794 Torque at 4600 elevation. I am hoping to see around 400 HP when done. I ported and polished the head and had it O-ringed.

Sweet! I've been looking at 6.ohno i/c on e-bay to mimic what sammy340 did. Good luck!

Frostie, Where abouts in Coloado are you? I'd really like to see that IC once you have it fitted.

Did you get the all metal 3rd gen IC, I heard that they put ones in with plastic end tanks for a while but they don't last long.

I might just stick to my original plan to fit a 2nd gen IC I hear they don't take too much to make them fit.

I was just wondering if I was reading this right. Are you expecting to gain 70HP with a ported/polished head and a 3rd gen intercooler? I see you already have the old smoky pin...did you have it when you made 332hp? Keep us posted on your dyno numbers. I'm not trying to be rude so please dont take this the wrong way, but I personally dont think you'll get to 400hp with just those three mods.

I also ground my AFC lever in the pump, that is suppose to give about 30 HP
That should put me around 360, then with porting, and ATS manifold which I ported and air to air, well maybe 380, but I can always hope.
This HP is at 4600 elevation as well, so I would bet at Piers I would be around 400+

Yes, I've read that the afc mod gives you 30-40hp, but has anyone actually made a before and after dyno run to get an actual number? Not a pump expert by no means, but I'm under the impression that the two highest HP 1st gens in the country are running stock afc levers. I would think they would of done this mod if it actually gave them 30 additional HP.

Frostie,
Best of luck in reaching 400hp. Please keep us up to date on your progress.

The higher HP trucks are running a 14 MM head on their injection pumps.
I read in a post some where that the AFC lever doesnt have the same affect on the pumps with the 14 MM head.
I got the head on and torqued last night. I will give you dyno numbers as soon as I get a chance to finish up. It may be a few days yet.

So that is how you guys are getting big HP numbers. You build you trucks at high elevation (300 HP) and then drive down to sea level to run on the dyno's (575 hp)

Cool

www.duralite.net you will have to send them your tanks and they can build a good one for you. If I get up in the North west next summer I'm going there to have them build me one.

Well I got my truck running last night
My grill fits but the condensor may not fit, I havent had time to mess with the AC, winters almost here anyway.
I have definately much lower EGTs. I use to be able to hit 1200 degrees post turbo really easy. I never saw it over 900 on my road test. It feels strong but saw no boost increase. I dont know if its becuase of all the porting or the much larger volume air intake system. Im going to try and dyno this coming week.

I wouldn't expect the boost numbers to increase any. If it's cooling better, the pressure would drop, but the higher flow would tend to increase the pressure, so these two factors are probably cancelling each other out. Bottom line is you are getting more air mass though the BHIC, pressure is not important.
