312k too many miles to start tweaking thing?

Hi all, I've had my truck for a while and now i'm ready for some more power. My dakota with a 4.7 V8 WILL currently out towed and perform better with a trailer behind it.
So what i'm wondering is this: Is 312 thousand miles too many to start modding the truck? I've heard over and over again these engines go forever and only need things like the head rebuild at about 400k.
Of course i will do all the maintence things first before tweaking it to make sure it is running right in the first place. I don't plan of going over board with it, but i would like some decent power for towing and fuel milage considered.
Also, what is meant by "Bombing"? I've heard the term almost religiously on this board, but have yet to figure out what it means. ( i think i means modding).

Baby!

My truck had over 350k when I got it. I started cranking on things thanks to the fine fellas here and haven't looked back. She'll probably need attention some day...I may even still be around when that day comes! Hey, you've got the truck now, might as well enjoy it. Worst thing'll be you'll have to provide the beer when everybody comes to help out fixing what broke Get on over to the user CP section and fill out your sig so we know what you're driving

BTW--welcome to DTR!...in case nobody officially mentioned it

Thanks for the welcome. Been lurking for a while, just too many irons in the fire to start on the truck. Selling the dakota and will start on this pretty quick.
I have to get it running right first as there is a stumble in it. Probably a clogged injector or something as simple as the tank vent plugged. After that i'll start with the poor boy mods and probably a 4 ich exhuast.

Yeah, crank it up! You won't break anything that wasn't on borrowed time anyway.
