Question 3" or 4" down pipe...witch is better!

All sight that i have visited, the down pipe is 3" and the rest is 4"

Maybe my thinking is wrong but,...I would think that a 4" down pipe and 3" the rest of the way would be less restrictive then the 3" to 4"!!

Just my "theary" the air is the hottist (expaned) going thru the turbo,as it travles down the pipe it cooles (contacts, srinks and slows down). there for the tail pipe could be smaller then the down pipe and not be more restrictive! Wiall the ether way(3"to4") the 3" is the bottle neck or the flow damaner? Right? or am i way of base?

Bigger is better, well for the most part. Rip Rook sells a 4" downpipe for our trucks.

That is a 4 inch mandrel bent pipe that fits so nice and neatly, its unbeliveable! hehehe I have one ORDER THE ADAPTERS! Its worth the few extra bucks. The pictures arent the greatest, but go to my link in my Sig. and click on the stack project album.

Oh and a 4 inch DP is better! hehehe IF/WHEN you order it, PM me and i'll tell ya what ya need, what NOT to do, and how long it took me with a set of ramps, a sawzall, tape measure, and a vise. oh and a welder.

I've got a pretty good picture of the rip rook 4" downpipe in my photo gallery here. Note the crappy welds!

I just installed Rip's 4 inch downpipe on my revived 93. I swapped the Piers 35 for a Diesel Dynamics Jammer turbo I had just aquired. This turbo has a 4 inch outlet, and Rip's downpipe fit it perfectly. Just waiting for the remaining exhaust pieces to show up.

What small runs I did make, it sounds and hits real nice now.

I agree and disagree. You only have so much air coming out of the turbo. While yes the 4" would be less restrictive, I doubt you will see much if any notice between the 3" DP and a 4" DP in a stock/near stock config., unless you start adding lots of fuel to the point where the 3" does become restrictive. When I went to a 4" DP over a 3"(rest was 4") I didnt see any difference in Temps, but I cranked my fuel back quite a bit too.

looking at you pic a little closer i figured out the adapter!

Im going to have to us the same adapter as you and us the stock pipe end, were it bolts to the ex-brake or turbo in you case!
Maybe this isn't going to be as difficult as i had made it out to be!!

Considering what I spent on my exhaust system, I wish that I would have known about that, loch.
