2wd to 4x4 club cab '92/'93 frame off build
After several weeks of being too busy with other people's Dodge trucks and taking care of my oldest dog Mitzi in her last days, I had some free time yesterday. Helping a 200# dog that has trouble walking and towards the end, even standing requires a strong back.
I got started pulling that Getrag yesterday. I have a spare freshly rebuilt Getrag to throw in its place, while this one gets the popping outta gear in 1st gear dealt with.

Then spending 2 days in Moab and one night camping out on the Gemini Bridges trail. Nothing quite like driving for 30 hours, then 4 wheeling in the rig you need to get home for a few days.
Before dragging our trailer home from your place in 2 1/2 days with that sweet crew cab loaded up....Great memories.
Well back to the present times...
Got the Getrag and NP-205 pulled as a unit last night before dinner.
I plan on installing the Getrag and the NP-205 back on separately. That will make for a little more wrenching in tight places, but sliding the input shaft into the flywheel and clutch will be easier without the 150# NP-205 hanging of the back.
It's rough that dogs don't live longer than they do. It's tough to deal with in their final days but worth every day spent together.
That sounds like an epic trip! Which reminds me it's warm enough here to do dome weekend camping...

The Getrag and NP-205 have been pulled. A spare, freshly rebuilt Getrag was slid into place on Sunday. Even with a shop lift my back felt a bit funny for a day after wrestling it into the pilot hole smoothly.
I still have the 29 spline NP-205 to slide on the back, then a bunch of buttoning things back up.
We got an inch or two of snow on Sunday, but spring days are just around the corner.

Well after taking a break to work on some parts that do not weight 150#s a piece, by working on my Pop top, I am back on this project.
The NP-205 is slid back on, crossmember, skid plate and drive shafts are all re attached. I sprayed down a few bits with some Fluid Film. Lubed all the king pins and fresh tie rod ends of the front end as well as the driveshaft. She is ready to come down off the lift so I can slide the shifter stub into the Getrag and button up the inside.
Should be ready for summer driving then.

The trucks is all back together and off the lift.
I believe it is ready for the summer....I say this as it is literally spitting snow up on Mount Mansfield now. Luckily it is 39F and just raining in my yard.
It is almost the summer solstice and we are still talking snow up here

Well I got the truck out for a good test ride after the rebuilt transmission install. It was longer than most of my test drives....
I took the truck on a 500 mile trip to the Thousand Islands to help my buddy fix his '92 D250. My truck did great on the 10 hour drive there and back. The new transmission shifts great.
While I was there I helped my friend fix some light damage to the drivers side of his truck. He ended up hitting a guard rail towing a trailer up from Florida a month ago. We hammered his bumper, fender and core support back into shape. I brought along an OEM grille and some turn signals to spruce it up after the accident.
I got things back in shape using 3 come alongs hooked to trees and a spare rig. Then we used a slide hammer along with a hammer and dolly to get things into shape.
He had also just lost O/D, so I got it back working by installing a toggle switch for it. Before I left we also worked on the brake lights which where acting up due to a janky brake switch that was taped up into position from a PO.
It was a good Mopar road trip.

Got started on a Power Joke intercooler swap last night. I am using an I/C for a ‘99 Ford. I found it on Summit Racings for under $300 delivered. It looks nice and is all aluminum.
I will be upgrading to 3 inch pipes, boots, turbo elbow, a 2nd gen intake horn of some sort - I am still undecided as to which one. It should reduce the restriction of the tiny 1st gen intercooler a lot. I already have a 7 blade HX35 turbo from a 24V on the engine and a 4 inch Diamond Eye exhaust.
I plan on keeping the working A/C while busting out this swap. I will be mounting the A/C cooler behind the Intercooler.
