2nd gen rear end in a 1st gen D250
Forgive me for being a newbie, but my rear end in my 93 1st gen is pretty much toast. Pinon gear broke a tooth, and the carrier bearings wore shot letting the carrier move around in the case. Now, I need to know if a rearend out of a 98 2500 will work in my 93 1st gen. as I have know where a good one is. Seems I read something about the 2nd gens being wider? If so could I put wheel spacers on the front to make it look right? I plan on putting 2nd gen wheels on it anyway. Thanks in advance

I won't have ABS with a 14 bolt right? What about drive shaft length? What has to be done to put one in? I like the fact that I can get 373's in a 14 bolt, would be good for the towing I will do, plus just driving aound. And they are plentiful around my neck of the woods. Anybody done this and had good service.

My Last truck had a 14 bolt but being a crewcab longbed I had the drivelive made to fit truck . You should be ok on driveline thou. being you already have a D70 But I would go with 410's if you have anything bigger then stock tires .

I don't think I will go with the 14 bolt. I found a rear end from a 98 for 300.00. So I know the spring perch's are different. What about the drive shaft, will I have to shorten it? If so how much? Any other things I need to look for?
Thanks, I need to make a decision soon.
I also have found a rear end from a 93 dually and he has the hubs for a single wheel dana 80 he will let go with it for 300? It has 4.10's where I have 3.73's now. Despite the fact the I will be pulling, I still would like to drive the truck as a daily driver, so the 4.10's may not be the best option. What do you guys think
Thanks

I had a truck with the 2nd gen axle and it stuck out pretty far on both sides. The 14 bolt fits better and is stronger from what Ive read. Its supposedly only 1" or so wider and the spring perches are very close to ours. You will need to shorten the driveshaft and move the shock mounts. Its the route I'm going when my diff wears out.

Found a rear end for my truck, Kinda wanted to keep the ABS in tact, so I decided not to go the the corp 14. Found one from a 1990 model W250 with 355 gears. Just like I had. Was told the crank in the engine broke. Im guessing the KDP was to be blamed. Anyway, Hope to get it back this week. I hate not having my truck. Will let you guys know how it goes
