255/85R16's On a 1st gen

Who has the on A 1st gen? Any pics? I seriously starting to lean toward that size for the alcoas. Options are limited in the 255/85R16's but I think I can be happy with whats out there.

Don't have them on mine now, but my spare is that size. Apparently the previous owner had a set on it once. I do like the way the spare looks when on the truck though. My only set back was that I had a hard time finding much selection in that size. Let us know what you find.

The 255-85-16s are a good size for an over-geared truck, as they are not much wider than a 235, just a couple inches taller.

I currently have a set on the old 78 Chevy.

My main gripe about the 255s is not so much the lack of design choices, seeing as how they are made in all the really good treads, but the fact that most of them are LR-D.

Granted, that size in LR-D is rated for as many pounds as the 235 in LR-E; I just like to have the bigger numbers; it just sounds better.

I'm planning on putting these 255/85 on my alcoas which is a perfect fit for the 16x7 wheel according to the tire specs. If I end up not liking these so much on the Alcoas will they fit the 16x6 stock wheels?

YES. They will fit either rim real good; in fact, anything from six to eight inches will be fine.

How do you like those M55s ??

I was looking at the pricing and they cost ME quite a bit more than we sell the TOYO Open Country HTs for installed, tax and all.

Those are sure enough rich man tires, not for the financially challenged.

I like them alot, great in snow and rain and on the highway. I have a set of 35s/ 17s going on the truck soon so the 255s will be getting a new home on another Ram...it's too bad they don't come in bigger sizes.

The 255/85/16's are a aftermarket sized Dually tire... I have been looking at getting some for the truck, I hoped someone had them on a dually.

They will touch each other when loaded, when used on the O.E.M. DRW wheels of a 1st Gen.

The later model wheels with more off-set can probably use them.

So far the tires I have found in this size are the BFG M/T, Toyo M-55 and Dunlops RVT's or something like that. Any other Ideas? Anything taller and just as skinny? I have had really good luck with these BFG commercial T/A's I tempted to try these BFG M/T's. I'm still shopping since the alcoas aren't going on until the salting season is over.

One thing on the BFG`s, mine are D rated and as such the front tires wear pretty quickly due to the weight of the engine. My next set of tires will be E range or better, YMMV, JMHO.
