24valve head on 12v

What gasket kit should i get from cummins. a 24v kit or the 12v kit? I was there yesterday and they have standard, .15mm over and .50mm oversized. i would think i need the 15mm over and the 24v gasket kit. thanks

Um, . . .. if your engine is a 12 valve, then you need the 12 valve head gasket.

If you're simply replacing a failed head gasket on an otherwise stock/OEM engine, then run the standard gasket.

If the head has been machined for the purposes of reconditioning, then perhaps the .010" over gasket.

If you're planning on heavily bombing the engine and running water/methanol injection, NOS, etc, then go with the .020" over gasket.

You're putting the 24 valve head on the old block to get the '99 running, right? You want the 24 valve set to match with the head. Which (or whether) oversize you want depends on your plans for the engine and whether or not the head or block has been resurfaced.

Machomopar is planning on using his extra 12 vavle motor to replace the cracked 53 block in a 24 valve he'a planning on getting. He's tring to collect info and one of the questions is with his 12 valve block and the 24 valve head, which head gasket he should be using.

24V vs 12V head gaskets are not the same. There is a thread on CompD about the correct on to use. Check it out before you spend your hard earned money. I'm just trying to help this member out.

Not trying to hijack the thread and I realize your doing this for a 24v motor but would there be any advantage of running a 24v head on a ve motor.

the 24v heads flow better but i really don't know if it would be enough or worth it on a VE. I know a few guys around me that have p-pumped pulling trucks that run 24v heads.
