205 transfer case mounting

Am I missing a bracket, or does the transfer case just bolt up to the end of the overdrive coming out of the transmission - with no other means of support. Seems like alot of weight hanging off the end of an aluminum cast case with no support, drivelines and all that.

Doesn't look like I'm missing anything, but I might. The transfer case just hangs out there or what? Thanks - truck's in the sig.

Yep...just hangs.

When my 518 went it pretty much grenaded the od housing (back of the tranny) and left the 205 on the skid plate.

Well, it sure looks odd. Got a cast iron, gear to gear transfer case with two drivelines attached to it just hanging off the end of an aluminum nose cone.

With all the miles put on these trucks if they were breaking off we would know it by now. Makes me want to make a bracket for it, just doesn't look right. Transfer case has got to weigh seventy pounds, just hangin' out there. Pffft.

Funny thing is the 241s in the gas trucks had an extra mounting bracket.

I think that mount is for the fact that the 241 is all aluminum and they wanted to help with structural integrity. I have seen a 241 without the bracket that had a cracked the case, it was behind a 408 stoker motor.

is a divorced transfer case mounted solid to the frame? What is the benefit to running this instead of the stock 241 on a 2nd gen? I'm building a truck, and have access to a divorced transfer case. have found that a rebuilt 241 for a manual transmission is at least $1100! More without a core!

they still have independant crossmembers, with a input adapter/leg, the earlier 205's also had a side mount to the passenger side frame, my 1973 powerwagon was setup that way behind the manual trans
