Unhappy 205 output yolk

I've got a slight vibration at speed that I can't seem to find. I'm good up to about 58 mph or so. It happens mostly on coast or deceleration from speed--definitely not on acceleration (till the getrag starts begging for mercy ). I recently rebuilt the rear end, getrag and replaced both u-joints in the rear driveshaft while I had it out. The output of the 205 t-case, however has some movement that I don't like---is there a bearing right on the other side of that yolk that can be serviced while in the truck? My driveline angles are good---there is no lift or extreme angle to the shaft. Any input would be greatly appreciated, as always.

Yes there is a bearing there, and a seal. I have the same problem right now, and am awaiting a warm day to do the job.

If you're getting that vibration, you might have already messed up the shaft a bit, so when you go to get the kit, opt for the speedy sleeve to go with it. It costs about 120 canadian, but I get a trade discount, so a little more. Thats about five bucks with the current exchange rate to american $ Maybe about 75 bucks...

Let me know how it goes for you, good luck!

So I can take the little 'tailshaft' off the t-case and replace the bearing? Cool, I'll go check with my parts guy. Thanks for the tip about the speedy sleeve

There are two bearings -- there is a ball bearing right under the seal retainer, and then a roller bearing further in . . . I would replace them together, and check to make sure that the shaft is not tapered where the rollers ride on it. Need to do it to my truck too . . . keep thinking I should R&R the whole case and convert to a twin shifter . . . but who has the time for such projects.

mmmm 2-lo if you can call it low range on a 205 'course, if 1st gear low range doesn't multiply the cummins torque enough to move the load, one probably has no business pulling that load anyway offroad control is another thing all together---4:1 would be nice
