1st gen stock turbo

I know a kid who plans on putting money into his truck which is a 1992 250 4x4 automatic. I keep telling him i dont know alot about bombing them but i told him he is wasting his money unless he replaces ther turbo. I told him i was pretty sure the stock one was only good to 240hp. Am i right in telling him this or can you produce more the 240 hp with the stock turbo.

240hp to the rear tires with enough fuel sounds about right. Maybe a little more with the right combo but not much more.

240rwhp is near 300hp at the crank. So its not bad.

The highest that I dynoed with a H1C/12cm housing was 338hp with lazer hot egt's. I imagine you could go a little more with a bigger exhaust housing, but to keep the egts in check you would need a bigger turbo. 240hp with a stocker should be getting a little hot, but he could controll it ith his right foot.
