1st gen stacks and bed/frame crossmember?

Stacks (freebie, brand new) kit is on its way. 4" to 5" mitre cuts. A previous thread of mine regarding the position of the crossmember at the front of the bed suggests that I need to go back about 6" from the front of the bed to install these. Anyone who has stacks on a 1st gen got any tricks for my install?? Pics of under the bed would be sweeeeet!!! I got a toolbox to mount behinf the stacks, so the less space I need for the stacks, the better. Thanks a ton, you guys have never let me down before

Well here is how i did mine.

4x6 .250" box tubing
4" od .250" pipe
One 5" id x 5" id couple cut in half
One 4" id x 4" id 45* elbow
One 4" od x 4" od 90* elbow

i didn't draw it but I welded a 3" to 4" adapter to the end of the 90* elbow. This allowed me to use a short piece of 3" id flew to coupe the solid mounted stack box to the stock exhaust pipe that moves with the engine.

This set up also allows you to unband-clamp the 90* elbow that slips INTO the 45* elbow, and turn it down or out should you need to dyno run or put a cap on temporarily.

Those pics are sweet, but I have the whole kit from Grand Rocks on the way to me (free, minus shipping ), so how could I go wrong?
Does anyone have any under- the- bed pics of their install? If not, I reckon I will have some to show off soon,,, Just looking for the best options. Thanks all, Jeff

Just uploaded some pics I just took. They are pending aproval. Should be up in a while. My tool box dosen't sit on the bed floor which gave me the clearance to run the pipe forward to the crossover pipe. Should give you an idea of what needs to go where. Jethrro

I just cut part of the cross member out. Didnt hurt a thing. Mine dont sit to far back for a tool box. But I can tell you from experience, Jethrro has a nice truck with nice stacks on it as well.

Timb, is that a structural part of the frame, or just a bed crossmember? I don't want to go hacking apart my frame, but if it's just a bed support, I won't have any weight up there anyways. The stacks will be here Thursday or Friday I reckon.... Plus a few days to grow the ***** to hack a hole in my bed, and I'll have pics for ya'll... ( Yeah, they willl roll the coal also!)

Check, but I think that the fuel tank hangs in part from that crossmember that is being reffered to.... nothing like weakening a support for a 250+ pound when full) fuel tank...

The fuel tank doesnt hang from that cross member. And yes it is just a bed support. I only needed to cut about halfway through mine.
