my 79 ford had one but i threw it away because i like the stock look. my uncle had one on his 02 chevy, he got drunk and rolled the truck doing 360's.... probably helped him out a little lol

i know this has probably been asked before but i cant seem to find the answer. does anyone know if a roll bar out of a different gen or different brand truck will fit?
All of the light bars I have used on my Mini Trucks and 1-ton Chevy's through the 70's and 80's were made by Smittybuilt, also unless they were specifically Roll Bars and were braced through the bed and into the chassis using steel plates and high strength bolts and were not just 4" exhaust tubing they are only Light Bars and have given many people a false sense if security because they are not really a roll bar just something that looked massive and cool for you to hang your KC lights on.
I live at the base of the San Gabriel mountains were people go off-roading all of the time and I have seen lots of especially lifted trucks coming down the mountain on the back of a flatbed with the supposed roll-bar collapsed into the bed or the roof of the cab.

Back in the 70's when I was into Drag Racing I saw quite a few companies selling roll bars and cages or they would custom make one for your car for several hundred dollars, I never bought one because I knew better but many people didn't. they were making then using sections of exhaust tubing welded together.
If the NHRA inspection would catch them you could not race, there were street racers cars that had rolled and the cages collapsed and actually trapped the person inside making rescue efforts difficult.
There is a lot of difference between thin wall exhaust tubing and .120 Chromoly tubing, also it is a science of angles, bracing and where to install the gussets.
