Well snap! While mine does NOT have the "infinity" marking, it does have a "2xx" date code...

Appears all future repairs are on me!

I wonder why you got the notification now? I got mine way back in 93 or 94. I would have thought all the pumps would have been replaced by now. I wonder how the caught up with ya.

mopars view on recalls is "once a recall, always a recall". i have several early 90's caravans we put abs valves on once or twice a year. that being said, this is a one time recall, the pump with the bad # is replaced with a pump with a good # and therefor will not be replaced again under the recall. also, mopar is required to do repairs for recall only as long as parts are available. you can't bring your 78 volare up here to have a brake line recall done cause the parts aint available any more.

if you have a truck with the bad #'d pump, your local dealer should handle it. also i doubt very few modern diesel techs will know how to spot a modified ve pump.

Well you're right about the 'once a recall thing', but actually it's not Mopar's view, it's the NHTSA view on any safety recall. Which is what makes it the 'always a recall' thing. I'm certain you are correct with the statement of one-time replacement, but Mopar is responsible for any/all repairs/replacement to no end, regardless of parts availability. Still means they will only replace it once though, right? It isn't likely they will never have access to a replacement VE/VP pump, but even so, they do have the option of repairing your pump to satify the recall requirements. Most were simply replaced with remanufactured or sometimes new later built pumps(remans have the 'infinity' design stamped into the tag whereas the pumps in question have the numbers 163 thru 169 labeled)). And I should think a modern diesel 'tech' at any Mopar dealership doing such repair would indeed be able to spot any mods, as they receive alot of training and must be certified to be the specified diesel tech in the first place, right? Anyways, here's a link to the actual 25 page NHTSA documents that explain this recal in great detail and has great diagrams of the pump/problem area(the infamous fulcrum pin):

http://nhthqnwws111.odi.nhtsa.dot.go...-93E034-NN.PDF

Much more precise and better explained than the Mopar TSB. Of particular note would be the statements first that "Cummins is responsible for the remedy of this equipment, from this date forward, regardless of equipment age or ownership" included in the NHTSA letter to Cummins Engine Company, Columbus OH dated Nov 17, 1993. Yet in a similar letter to Chrysler dated FEB 7, 1994 the NHTSA states "CHRYSLER is responsible for the remedy of this equipment, from this date forward, regardless of equipment age or ownership". Cool, huh? Sounds to me as if Cummins is also liable to perform this recall, eh? And get this...there is also a statement in the time/labor cost reimbursement that says if the customer cannot/will not bring the affected vehicle in for repair, they must allow compensation for travelling TO the customer!! Verrry interesting reading - of course, most of us already have a replacement or later model pump with the pin upgrade(I checked mine, number 218), but this document could make the difference whether a dealer or Cummins tries to shine you on about expired recalls or no parts available, as Daryl mentioned above. Sorry for the lengthy post, figured everyone might be interested in following up for themselves. :-) Good luck everybody!!
