i saw an add in the local parts paper for a 1985 long box what changed between 1985-89 other then tail lights? the box is $200 with little bit of rust but no dents.

 

Absolutely nothing changed on the boxes, not even the taillights. They stayed constant for the entire run of that body style. About the only difference would be what's ON the tailgate-if that.

 

oops what i ment to say is whats the difference between an 85 box and a 93

 

I just put a '93 box on my '89. The frames on the newer trucks (91.5+ maybe?) are taller behind the cab and there are a couple places where the bed doesn't meet the frame. No big deal, really. Outward appearance is identical.

 

The tail lights are even the same in the older dakotas as our trucks
