1974 D500 Wow!!!
They are 9"X3"X3" c channel 1/4" thick and up to 50,000psi if I remember correctly.
I have a '75 D700 I converted from a 5th wheel into a 10' dump.
I just picked up a '96 F700 with a cummins and an allison and I "intend" to repower the Dodge with it.

DS79
this ones a little smaller than those, but would be a very interesting truck to put a cummins in..

Why is the chevy superior to the dodge given....
That truck started life as a C60(ish) Then UPFITTED by NAPCO to 4X4?
Now with the Chevy configured the way it is, is probly worth as much as it would cost for a D500 and the parts to make it 4X4 and with a used wrecker. I guess I don't unerstand why (other than ford VS chevy VS dodge) the dodge is a NO thanks compared to the chevy?
ADMORPARMAN I have talked to the guy who owns the Green D-600 you have posted.I was looking for the exact same truck a year or so ago and had the same ideas you have. I did locate one near me in EXCELLENT condition for $1.500.00. Trouble is I don't have the money to do the project. I am trying to get my crewcab going. Any way I have posted this before and I don't know if any one cared but check this site out for old Dodge trucks. oldDodges.com

Then UPFITTED again with a wrecker on it?

And yes the big Napcos are rare as hens teeth well any Napco is for that matter.
Some of the smaller Napco's in the late 50 were factory installed conversions. Then in 60 The general started building their own 1/2 and 3/4 ton 4x's and 1 ton and up was a Napco
This is my 60, 1st year chevy designed and built there own 4x

So I guess these D500s are out there.. I looked around and found two in CA, one was a 1975 DODGE D-500 5YARD DUMP TRUCK for only 1650 and the other was a flatbed in a little bit nicer shape for 3100. Since the cab will be getting replaced with a crew, and the rest will be rebuilt, it is really just for the frame, and VIN. Not a bad deal, huge project though. It would need rockwells and a newer big rig style airbag setup though.

if its ride quality you want for cheap... you can pick up the newer internationals that moving/trucking companies use. The motor seems to blow cylinder 5 and 6 when not taken care of... most aren't. They ride very nice, esp when loaded down, and im sure you could retro fit it to that old beast.
