If he is talking about the Autometer 2 gauge pillar pod, they will fit on all 1st Gen's (Richie has on on his '89) but the angle for the gauges leaves something to be desired, so i am told.

I would personally drop the tranny, have it rebuilt, even to stock specs would be better than now, but preferably beefed up, and add a Goerend converter. Do not buy a rebuilt stock converter, even new they were junk.

put your money into your transmission!! at the very least a better converter. their is a bunch of no cost low cost upgrades you can do with your truck for power.

With the constant rise in the cost of fuel over the last month I would save it to buy fuel. Do the math based on 20 MPG $1700 will get you a total of 8500 miles at $4/gallon or a bit over 11,000 miles at $3/gallon. Maybe I'm just thinking too thrifty about this and the cost of fuel has absolutely no effect on how much you drive?

I was thinking about this thread the other night. And I do retract my previous post.
TRANSMISSION! That is one of the most expencive investments on the truck. 1700 bucks could build a NICE 47RH for your rig! Even a stock 47RH with some improvements is 1000 times better then the non lockup A518.

Oh, on the A-pillar pod, 89-91.5 trucks LE or not, from what I remember they dont have trim on the A-pillar to mount the autometer pod. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
And the 89-91.5 trucks have a different steering column then the others. Right???

My 91 LE has both an A-pillar trim cap and a 2nd gen style column housing. I am using the 2nd gen Autometer column pod. BTW it's only the tilt columns that can use this pod.

All 1st gen body style trucks have pillar trim as long as it has a headliner, almost all of them had headliners. i have a truck here with no a/c and a vinyl seat and it has a headliner.

The 89-90 columns are different.

the 91-93 columns are diferent and they are the column that accomodates the 94+ Column pod

My 89 LE has the factory pillar trim. It was some of the non LE's that had no plastic trim or headliner. My 89 has the OLD style non tilt column.

Ahhh.... I thought some of them didnt have the trim. Greg's didnt, I know that, but no headliner either. So thats what I was going with. But good info to know! Someone should compile a list of the year differences and approve it with Dave so it can make a journey into the Sticky! Hmmm, sounds like a project for me....
