2 Injectors, 1700 Dollars?

A family member has an 03 305/555 with 130,000 on it. Truck has been run stock all its life.

Anyway, he just blew 2 injectors and the dealer wants 1700 dollars to replace them. is that at all correct? Doesnt that seem a little steep?

I was quoted from a dealer to upgrade injectors to a bigger size for 1400.00

A friend of mine had to replace his because of bad fuel, stock fuel filter not up to doing the job. He replaced all 6 at 345$ each, or so dollars. That may not be exact as he was plenty ticked. He sold the truck a week later and bought a new chev half ton. He had enough of that. The truck had 30k or so on it.
I reccomend a 2 micron filter. I would take the truck to a shop that does only hp cummins work or at least knows how to fix the problem and not throw parts at it. Just an idea Jim

Is it the injectors or the tips that are bad? I paid less than that for my 40hp Formula 1s.....

For $1700 I wouldn't let the dealer even touch my truck. I would call Don M at Formula 1 for his new injectors and have a local diesel shop install them.

I have heard not first hand that you have to have good injectors to start with and then change the tips or nozzles. That could be off but the injectors could be $$ by the time it is all said and done. Jim

You are correct. At least I would know that I have six high quality evenly matched injectors.

MikeyB, who is this Don M at Formula 1 you are speaking of? I am interested in knowing what he has to offer.

Guys when you buy performance injectors for common rail motors you are just buying the high performance service to them.
You have to send in good cores to start with...hence the core charge.

If you have bad injectors then you need to get some good stock replacments before upgrading.

Correct. When I sent mine in he found one of them to be damaged from the high pressure of the old EZ box. I wonder what would have happened if he would not have been able to fix it???

How can you tell if an injector is bad? what will the truck run like? I am thinking of going with a 2 micron set up.
