12cm or 16cm housing for BC mountain hauling?
12cm or 16cm housing for BC mountain hauling?
I've got a 12cm on my truck now and will be hauling a 1 ton dually on a flatdeck from Calgary to Victoria. I was thinking of putting the 16cm housing on for the trip but am reconsidering because as I understand it the 12cm is better at altitude. What say you?
Watch your pyro closely. The 12cm will run hotter than the 16cm, even at altitude, and especially if you are running a 3200 gov spring. I think the 12cm becomes very restrictive at higher RPM's.
I'd agree with the guys on this one....the 12 will give you better overall response but you will have to watch your boost/EGT numbers.
If you use the throttle and the gears to your advantage you should be ok.
Remember, a stock turbo on our trucks is leaving it's efficiency range at roughly 26 psi..after that the boost starts to get hotter and the drive pressures climb quickly. These things will work against you.

I'd run the 16cm since you already have one!
I'd stick with the 12. Better responce, easier take offs, and its not like your towing a huge load. Your total load will be @8,500lbs. Thats not enough to really strain your motor. The 12 should be fine.
