To put a wastegated housing on you have to move the downpipe back about 1.5". The line from the wastegate can goes to a source of boost. On my truck I put a tee in the port where my boost gauge is attached and ran a piece of steel tube under the engine to the turbo. If your truck is a 5 speed you should consider swapping in a whole late model turbo or upgrading the compressor. The stock turbo will surge at low RPM under load. The automatics don't have this problem because the torque converter won't load the engine hard at low RPM.

Loose valve clearnce can make the engine louder, and setting them back to factory spec or slightly tighter (0.009/0.018) will improve power. You will probably notice that the engine runs smoother once they are all set to the same clearance.

Definitely adjust the valves yourself, it's not hard at all.

Don't worry about the special tools, as long as you have normal hand tools and a set of feeler gauges you will do just fine.
