Is 1100* EGT High For...

Is 1100* EGT High For...

...an almost stock empty rig on a highway grade at 70mph? I have a BHAF intake and high flow muffler (but only stock 3" exhaust). My boost gauge is not working properly (very sticky) but the most it read was 13psi. I will have a new one on Friday and know for sure if my boost is really that low.

EDIT: Oh, the probe is pre-turbo.

if before turbo your ok 1250 is danger zone if asking how temp is for truck ever truck is diff just keep 1250 or-

If it before the turbo(in the ex.manifold then 1250's the end of the safe zone.....I don't now what the spec is for after turbo(in ex down pipe)....if this is where your pyro is then i would say that 1100* is high!

Yeah, I know about 1250* being the max but am wondering if I should be that close without any real pump tweaks yet? The 1100* I hit was with the pedal mashed for 30 seconds to a minute maybe, while going up a decent grade at 70mph (5,000 feet alt and 70* outside).

I would say that at that altitude you are about right. Mine gets a lot hotter when I get up there. Those egt's will drop a lot at lower elevations.

Mine before i did any thing to it, but ex,(witch lower egt!)
Pushes the scale past 1250*.

This week end will be the first time to pull my trailer,with pyro and pump mod and i allready no that the mounten pulls, i'm not going to be able to us all the new found power

At that elevation a smaller turbine housing would help a lot.

Thanks for the responses. I guess the elevation makes more difference than I thought.

I am thinking of only going to a 16cm housing because I keep hearing horror stories of people with 12's having trouble on the highway at high rpms. Since I'll be using the truck just to tow, I think a 14wg would be my best bet but a 16non-wg is so much cheaper. Although I never really thought about the elevation and how it relates to the housing size...hmmm. Maybe I am better off with a 14wg (I'm convinced a 12 is just too small).

The 12cm housing is the stock housing on 2nd gen trucks . . . I don't think mine is a horror at all. If you don't want to turn up your pump too much, it is by far the way to go!

Doh! I should have mentioned these people who are having trouble with the 12's are also all towing decent loads.

Wanna has me thinking about the altitude and what effect it has on different size housings. I'm in Salt Lake City right down the street from HTT, so I think I'll drop in there and ask their opinion on the best setup for towing at this altitude (5k'). I think a 14wg is probably the best all around housing for me, but not sure it's worth the price difference from a 16non-wg.

pre turbo @ 1100 sounds fine Automatic .... sounds real good. My post turbo non ic rolls up pretty fast on climbs. You can run all day and night at 1100 without hurting a thing. For my post turbo I get anxious at 1100 and start to back off a little. With your set-up, the temps indicate that things are happening as they should.

Oh yeah, if you are pulling you will find the 16 cm just peachy. It only falls short in city traffic without a 3200 gov spring. You seem to want it for pulling so 16 cm is great.

I'm higher up, and rarely see 1,100 unless I have it to the floor up a hill with a load. 'course that's just post turbo temp

This was heading up a good grade at 70mph with the pedal mashed for 30 seconds or so. Since you're hitting 1100 post-turbo maybe mine is actually running good/cool.
