Question Is it worth fixing? front and rear main seals leaking oil

I change my oil every 6k miles and it uses about 2 quarts of oil.

How much of a pain is it to install new front and rear main seals? They have been leaking oil for a long time and the underside of my truck shows it as it's really nasty looking. everytime I park somewhere I leave a small puddle of oil and more often that not someone will point out that I have an oil leak.

is it worth all the headache of installing new seals? or **** on it and just add the odd quart here and there?

That question is one that only you can decide. The front seal is kind of a pita with the cover on the engine. It can be done though. The rear main seal I don't really know about, except that you would need to drop the pan (another pita) and try to repair it. Hopefully someone who knows will chime in here to help.

The rear seal is a circular seal you do not need to drop the oil pan but you do need to remove the transmission and flexplate the front seal can be done with out removing the front cover also the rear is much more difficult than the front.

If it were me I would fix it. I hate oil leaks. You only have 210,000 miles on it and still have a lot of miles left in it. You might consider checking the main bearings too. Get a good trans jack and slide the trans and converter back and replace the rear main seal. Then do the front.

I would do it. Just like Hemi Cat, oil leaks also get to me, too. I'd figure about 3-4 hrs on the rear - depending on how things go, don't know about the front. The rear won't be so bad because you won't have to remove the crossmember and junk like you were removing the tranny.
