A727 4x4: line pressure vs soft shift vs towing power?

I've had conflicting reports about an automatic transmission's line pressure versus a soft shift and also about towing power (clutch slippage). I'd like to get some conclusive information.

Is there a corelation between line pressure and a soft shift?

I know there is a corelation between line pressure and clutch pressure.

I have an A727 4x4 behind a 5.9 Cummins turbo diesel. I need to tow a 3500# boat on level highways and up mild inclines*. Seems to me it should do it without slipping the transmission.

(*Mild incline means climbing 100 feet in 1 mile at highway speeds.)

From what I've seen the higher your line presure is, the harder it shifts.

Yes, the higher the line pressure the firmer the shift's. That is what a shift kit does. The more it slips the quicker the clutch's wear, plus it creates heat. And heat is one thing a automatic does not like

I can't imagine a transmission in any normal decent condition having the slightest trouble with pulling a 3500 pound boat up almost nonexistent hills. Go have fun and don't sweat it.

I agree, you won't even know it's back there.

You can have a transmission with 150+ lbs of pressure that will shift like butter if you buy the right stuff. Call Dave Goerend. 563-778-2787
