If it was a 8.3 it would read 6CT, the engine shares most things but the fuel pump is the major difference. Fuel settings are designed for higher torque at less horse power.

Quite a few buses out there with B5.9 , with one school district we removed 110 C8.3 and replaced them with common rail 5.9 ISB in the last three years, and the drivers are very happy with them we also have had to replace the lift pump on all of them except the last few so far

We run 6bt's 5.9 engines in our single deck buses here in the UK.(Dennis Dart)..Coupled to a 3 speed Allison auto box..not the fastest thing on wheels...but good enough for what we call the 100yard dash..ie:- one bus stop to the other... . Quite a decent engine, we do have camshaft problems tho..Unladen 40 seater..6.5 tons..still gets about 12mpg....New stuff has the Common rail diesel...not been into them yet tho..

12 valve is pretty close to the same, might have a different timing case and cover for more air compressor clearance. Also has different pan and exhaust. 24 valve has different cam, timing case, exhaust, ECM, VP (lower rpm, higher torque) and real crappy injectors. Common rail is completely different engine, Dodge engine is special for the Dodge. Same block I guess, but gear case on other end.

Somewhat related, I've seen a number of 5.9's in motor homes. Still pushing around 30,000. One was a 160 HP 94. The man loved it. He liked it so much, rather than sell it, he replaced the interior.

Thats a good idea! I saw some bus 12v on ebay for around 1000. I need a new engine in my truck so i might check that out. Would all my go fast parts and stuff like that bolt up? I already have a finely tuned P pump and would like to put that back on so I guess that would bolt up too right?
