if u could, can you take a couple pictures of how to replace the old 23 spline with the 29 spline shaft and bearing? Thats the only part of the swap i'm alittle unclear on what to take apart.

Why would they not make a short-bed in 97?? Made one every year to my knowledge, but that's not that exetensive so i may be wrong.

Ridemywideglide - Yes, they made 6.5' and 8' beds, but you won't find a 6.5' bed on a V10 or CTD equipped truck prior to 1998. Up until 1998, the V10 and CTD engines were options only available for trucks equipped with the 8' bed. Starting in 1998, the V10 and CTD engine were made available to trucks that had the 6.5' and 8' bed.

I don't know where I originally read that, but it was almost three years ago when I bought my '97. I did a quick search on google, and did find this article. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...rticleId=46028 Scroll to the 1998 section.

I could swear I looked at 2 96 shortbeds with a diesel when finding mine..
Must be confusion in the memory banks.

I stand corrected

I also thought the same. Till 1998 there were no ext cab short beds. I never saw one. Pete

It would appear the lews930's donor truck was a smaller gas motor, and not a CTD or V10.

I talked to Lewis and he said it was a gas truck and they installed a cummins engine and a 5spd tranny. It was originally Gas!!!!!

Pete is correct. my donor began life as a 5.9 liter gas truck. Some where along the line, someone with a lot of time and money or both swapped the ctd, tranny, xfer case, front and rear ends and the dash, not to mention the inter cooler and radiator. When I started the motor the wait to start lite came on and the dash also had the water in fuel lite (not glowing of course).

Someone desperately wanted a ctd 4x4. it should also be noted that the motor was missing the tps and the linkage was "shimmed" with a bunch of washers but it worked.

as for knowing anything about short bed s or long beds, I got nothing

thanks for all your help Pete. Looks like Box5 will be next

Lewis, No problem. I don't mind helping any fellow CTD owners out. Let me know when you get her running. Pete
