Wifes 96 CTD ran fine yesterday. This morning she went to start it and it took a few seconds longer than usual.Lots of white smoke.When she went to rev it alittle after a couple minutes it smoked still and missed real bad. Took it for a drive,climbed a long step grade,still smoked but ran fine.After letting it sit for a few hrs. started it again, same miss,same smoke. What should I look for? Idle is set at 800 rpms.

have you hade the timming advanced if not it slipped with the added fuel you r pushing

 

Low fuel pressure symtoms:
Low rpm miss/instability
White smoke
Hard starting
Low power

Unless you have access to a fuel pressure gauge setup just replace the overflow valve
