Exclamation where to get pump timing tools?

OK, i tried revving my truck up to 2500 today, and got the tell-tale sputter and white smoke @ 23 -2400 rpm. Time to retime! I want to do it myself, but need to know where to get tools and at what kind of cost. I already have the engine barring tool, but need the socket to remove the delivery valve, the thrust bearing to reseat the gear, and the indictaor and adapter to attatch it to the delivery valve port.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I have the guy at the local cummins dealer looking up prices, but he said probably 6-700 bucks worth of tools.

Is there any place that sells these tools at a reasonable price?

You can buy the kit from Snap-On for about $200US. I use a dial indicator and a magnetic base and a steering wheel puller for the gear.

You used to be able to buy a set from SPX Miller online www.miller.spx.com/ for about the same price as Snap-On but it appears their website has changed and they want you to deal over the phone. It's part number 6860 ($238)

what's the part # on the snap-on kit? I searched their catalog online, and pulled up 2 kits, one for the 24 valve, and one to supplement the 24 valve kit to cover 12 valves. Are you guys just using the 12 valve part of the set?
That's wya cheaper than what cummins wants... they want 119 just for the gear puller! You don't even wanna know what they want for the set of all the other tools, minus the thrust bearing (ok, it's 600 and something) .

I'll double-check the snap-on site... I may just buy that set!

Nevermind... I found it. It is Snap-On catalog #SP500. I think I'll get one.
