What Know
My 96 blew a head gasket I know for sure between cylinder 2-3 know I put another head on it and new cummins head gasket and still has a miss and blows compression out the intake sound like a dead miss just like when the head gasket was blown I torqued it in correct sequence and 89ftlb+90* what else. Is a flattened lob on the cam a possibility anyway need advise and your thoughts on my problem thanks

I am not clear on your post on how you said you torqued the cylinder head.
As I recall, with the stock headbolts, it is 90ft.lbs PLUS a quarter turn. Is that what you did? By your post it looks like 89ftlbs PLUS another 90 after that????

thats 89 ft lb + 1/4 turn or 90 degrees thats what my manual shows still should have ran right for a minute, but new head and gasket and it still misses and blows back out the intake I took it back off and the gasket looks fine all the push rods seem straight what next step to resolve my problem
hi
look at your intake valve springs as 1 may be week or broken ?
bent intake valve , pour some diesel fuel in your intake port and see if it runs out under intake valve ?
bad injector , have them tested ?
let us know !

Thanks for your reply. Looks like that shouldn't be the problem then.
The other DTR Members are giving you some good advice on things to look for. One other thing I would add along the lines of what oldblues has told you, is to put a dial indicator on the valvetrain and make make sure you have the proper clearances on those valves opening and closing AFTER you adjust those valves again. I set my mine @ 10 on the intake and 12 on the exhaust.

That is indeed good news! Glad to hear it was something simple! It is amazing how a problem like that can make your mind and heart "race" when it comes up, and how relieved you are when it is something simple!
