water/air intercooler
water/air intercooler
Has anyone used an intercooler like this?
Water to Air Intercoolers (frozenboost.com)
In my build I may not have enough room to place an air/air intercooler in the grill of my '49 F4. I only have an area of 22"x19". I do have height above the engine as the hood is quite tall and was thinking I could fit this intercooler over the engine. Think of replacing the intake pipe of a non-IC truck with this water/air intercooler.
Beyond physical dimension issues is there a reason to not do this? The water radiator is much smaller than an air/air intercooler and as it would also have fans, I could mount it pretty much anywhere.
thanks
david

I would think a NON intercooled motor would keep things plenty cool enough in that truck, unless dyno pulls or the like are in your future.
I run several NON intercooled truck and have no problem keeping the EGT in check even when pulling long hills at highway speeds or better, in my '85 crew cab with 37 inch tires and a tuned up injection pump.

Agreed - intercooler not required for most lighter use, or only modest fuelling. Remember, Dodge originally added an intercooler for emissions reasons, not power.
That unit may work, but there is also the stock style aftercooler for industrial and marine 6BTs:
