I have been having troubles with my tranny shifting WAY to early. I have checked out my tv cable and what not, but I am wondering if the vss is going out??

Mine was weard as hell ... my senson would quit working after driving the truck and parking it for about ten mins ...it would get warm and stop working , let it cool down for a half hour and it was fine ... that was pain in the butt to figure out .

My boss had the VSS in his '99 do weird stuff...it would go through 1st fine, then go into 2nd most of the time- it acted like it was looking for the next gear. Other times I guess it wouldn't go into/come out of OD (something beyond strange like that)
He changed the VSS & that fixed it.

Sounds simular to what mine does. I called the parts store and they said it is on the transfer case. I am wondering if there is more than 1 vss on our trucks? Some people have told me there should be one on the side of the tranny as well.

thanks

Not figuring much out here. I have not been able to find out if there is more than one vss or not. I am now pretty sure the one that is bad is in the transfer case though, the speedo has been "bouncing" around at times.

any more input appreciated

thanks

Update (for others having shifting problems), I found out there is 1 vss on my truck. Went and bought one, but it had a differant end on it.

I unplugged it to make sure the plug was differant, yes it is. Ended up being a bad connection because I never did have to replace the vss, it just started working correctly again.
