Valve Body

I have been doing some searching on the site but I can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for. I just put in a Goerend triple-disk converter in my truck and would not mind having a valve body to complete the setup. But, Goerend's valve body costs $670 and I have looked at HTS and DTT that are way cheaper. Both of those are in the $400 range. Goerend's comes with all new solenoids but I already have those new from when I had the tranny out. Even so, he only knocks off $150 to send a valve body without solenoids. So, anybody out there running a Goerend converter with a DTT or HTS valve body? If so, I would like to hear your experience (good or bad) towing and just dailiy driving in general with a setup like that. Thanks!

I have an ATS trans, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. That said, you shouldn't mix brands when putting in your valve body--if you bought a Goerend TC, you will get best results with a Goerend valve body--they were engineered for each other. And I definitely wouldn't put in a DTT valve body--they are made (as I understand it) for a completely different TC than a Triple-Disc, lockup TC.

Hey, thanks for the input. My valve body already has some stuff done to it. It charges the converter in park (i.e., updated manual valve), provides constant line pressure to the lube circuit, and has the line pressure turned up "about 10lbs at idle," according to the guy who did the work. I'm trying to decide whether or not it's worth the extra money to with a Goerend, DTT, HTS, or any of the other vendors. My tranny doesn't slip at all. And, I pulled a tractor with a front-end loader on it the other day and it did fine. Of course, I had the overdrive locked out but it did not slip at all pulling some pretty steep grades. What do you all think? To valve body it or not?

My philosophy is... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. However I'd ask Dave Goerend, since you already have his TC. From what I hear he's a straight shooter and would probably give you good advice.

Now I'm not a tranny expert, but I do know if the internal clutches are stock, and if you put a lot more torque through the trans than stock, and if your TC is beefy and locked up, you are likely to slip and eventually burn the internal clutches. But the fact that you say it's not slipping at all on pretty steep grades while towing a tractor, while the TC is locked speaks well for your internal clutches... I think.

I'm kinda right there with ya on the "if it ain't broke don't fix it." I am only running arough 300hp and I really don't plan on going any bigger. So, I may just keep what I got and keep the cash it would take to buy a valve body. This stuff gets expensive really quick!
