I'd sell the V10 truck and put that money plus the 3-5000 for the swap and buy what you want. Its always fun to tinker, but it'll nickel and dime you to death. What about the dash that says "unleaded gasoline Only" dont forget to change that. What about the wait to start lite? And the auto trans, just plan on replacing that while your doing the swap. Ya, its not impossible, but why? Buy what you want and start driving/bombing right away.
Just my 2 pesos.

Yup, what he said.
If the Cummins wern't an option in the truck you have it might make it worth while. I just put one in my Ford, but you couldn't get a diesel engine, let alone a Cummins in a Ford in '79. If you are bent on doing the swap buy a whole donor truck or it will kill you for all of the little parts to finish your swap.

thanks 2 everyone replyin if I get enough of your $.02 ill have a dollar lol. the truck is paid off so my investment is the cummins and parts. I never really considered I could sell the motor 2 recoup some of the money, nothing wrong with the motor no leaks and is strong I just le diesel and unless I could pretty much trade plus cash on my truck can't get a diesel and I am creditly challenged right now. I am in the research stage of the game and I appreiciate ALL the input and opinions

i am undergoing a similar process, but i am swapping a 5 speed in at the same time, i have pedals, bellhousing, clutch fork, flywheel, engine, wire harness, and adapter plate and i have spent about 1300 bucks so far, just keep your eye out for good deals like i have and be patient.

on another note, i have searched and cannot find an actual write up on the swap, anyone have one or an idea were to find the write up?

iam doing this swap as we speak.. I have a 96 with 360..anybody want it? I have purcahsed a complete 98 1 ton with bad rear end for 1700 bucks with 5 speed.. I have done some research.. you need both wire looms. and ecm and the rest from a donor truck. I would sell you this 98 set up if you had a 96 !..any way I will have a 98 engine harness from this 98..It will be worth it..gas engine trucks at least the 360 are way cheap..put 12 valve in and it will tons better.. I will have 5 peed for sale along with 98 xcab ..stuiowa@yahoo.com.good luck!

I am doing the same swap. I have a wrecked 98 quad cab 4x4 diesel auto. Then I bought the exact same v-10 truck. The frames are identical, rearend the same, transfer case the same. Are the front springs the same? This is a pretty big project, the brake boosters must be changed. does anyone know how much a v-10 is worth.

Wouldn't you need a different TC with a lower stall RPM?

I also have a V10 sitting in the shop that I'd like to sell. I had no luck advertising it locally, although I did get a lot of calls thinking it was a complete truck.
