unhooking the wastegate

when unhooking the wastegate do I just slide the rubber hose that goes into the afc housing off of the hard line that runs across the motor to the wastegate?? & if so should I plug the rubber line with a bolt or something?? I think that's how we used to unhook it on some of the older IDI ford's with the ats turbos??? not real sure it's been awhile, Thanks, Dusty

I would plug it & yes that is the most convenient spot to unhook. The reason why I say yes to plugging I noticed an ever so slight 1 - 1-1/2 lb boost increase plus faster build boost with it plugged.

My rule of thumb is all boost counts, little leaks are leaks none the less and they all add up

that's the way i done it & I noticed a couple of pounds more boost as well as lower egts, my temps seem to be down about 50-100* at cruising speeds & they seem to drop alot faster when i back out of the fuel after a wot run. does all of this seem normal. also right now my boost is peaking at around 40psi with the gate unhooked, with it stock & a boost elbow I could reach around 42psi, I try & keep it at around 35-36psi when loaded since I still have the stock hx-35, but these are max numbers at full throttle, the 42psi was also with a load behind me, whereas the 40 psi tonight was just the empty truck, with no elbow & the gate hooked up I peaked at around 37-38psi loaded, are these #'s sounding pretty normal?? just wondering, thanks, Dusty
