TV cable/lever advice needed

Hey guys, I need some advice on the repair/adjustment of the TV cable on my truck. Phil says that the TV lever needs to be all the way back when I am at full throttle.

So here's where the trouble is:

If I am at pretty much no throttle, and immediately put it on the floor the lever gets pushed back all the way as it should. But if I roll into full throttle, it doesn't get moved back all the way. Which I understand is not good because it brings the pressure up based on the throttle position, and I don't want low line pressure when at full throttle or that might let some stuff slip.

Since I treat my truck pretty easy, I RARELY mash full throttle from a dead stop. I tend to roll into full throttle more, but I can't do that since the cable is not pushing the TV lever back all the way.

Now I have it adjusted "back" as far as it can go with the little adjustment device up with all the throttle cables, etc.

So, any ideas on what I should do to get it adjusted right? Replace the cable, or is there some other adjustment that can be made? Because its no fun to have this (little bit of) upgraded power and not be able to use it.

Thanks!

sounds like it may be stretching or something. its a direct connection, so it should push it the same regardless if you hammer it or go into it gradually.

LanceD is correct. You may have the lever at trans loose on shaft. There could possiblly be some interference at v body?
The basic adjustment should be with apps at closed throttle the lefer should also be all the way forward from spring tension. Just .025 " off and your upshift schedle will be messed up. Along with shift hunting at low speeds. Also delayed upshifts.
Generally don't worry about WOT as long as nothing loose in linkage.

Well I've got it figured out now. It had to do with a random spring that the previous owner had used to pull the throttle ... mechanism towards the front of the truck. I have no idea why it was on there, the only thing it seems to do is just make the pedal have a bit more resistance to it. I took it off for the first time today and then checked the TV lever and when the pedal was floored the lever was all the way back like it should be. And nothing catastrophic happened when I took it for a test drive, so I'm hoping that spring wasn't necessary to make the throttle let off!!

Otherwise that could mean for an interesting ride .

The spring is necessay for proper throttle return. Perhaps it was mispositioned on lever or at cross shaft bracket bolt.

agreed- the spring is to return the TV cable to the low (forward) position and is necessary. It's more likely your lever is just sticking- usually it happens to bind the tv cable lever from going all the way forward and boosting line pressure, but it can happen the other way- check for lever movement freedom of motion and soak with penitraiting oil- see if that helps.
