TPS question

I am in the process of going through the basics on my engine.
I measured my supply voltage, my initial idle position voltage, and then removed and drilled 2 holes in TPS. I sprayed it with contact cleaner that I got at radio shack working the sensor shaft . then I blew out the cleaner and I slotted the mounting holes, I mounted it back and tried to set it.

the supply voltage prior to removing it was 5.1 volts

idle position voltage was .3 volt

after cleaning all I could get it to adjust to in the idle position was .6 volts no higher
(I am almost through the mounting bolt holes)

W.O.T. voltage is 3.3 volts

I can't get to the 1.2 or greater volts recomended on this site.

the voltage is linear when going to W.O.T.

does anyone have any idea's on whats going on?

thanks all

Did you use dielectric contact cleaner? I would suggest to take it back off and split it in halfs and reclean it with the contact cleaner then applying a small dab dielectric grease. Some have tried cleaning with regular old wd40 and it doesn't work. I am away so I do not have the thread handy to post, but there is a post from pappyman with photos of spliting the tps and doing a better cleaning job than just squirting in holes. Goodluck,,Rick

According to the manufacturer of our TPS it should be filled with high temp synthetic grease, not dielectric.

I have opened up 2 TPS's and found nothing but air inside of them....I even opended up a TPS from some other make and only found very little of what looked like grease....these TPS's on our trucks can be a major pain when towing heavy like I do most of the time its been a good 9 months since I sprayed my TPS with contact cleaner and resealed it I've not had any troubles with it since.....even If I do it ez to open the hole and respray the contacts again

Thats a new one to me, as I would think that the synthetic would cause interference, I have used dielectric with no known problems on several. But if the factory says so? Maybe that is the way to go?? Goodluck,,Rick

My wording was misreading, shouldn't have said filled but rather they use high temp synthetic grease.
